The Phantom of the Opera (2004 Movie Soundtrack) (Special Extended Edition Package)

The Phantom of the Opera (2004 Movie Soundtrack) (Special Extended Edition Package)For better or worse, Andrew Lloyd Webber's adaptation of Gaston Leroux's gothic horror/romance novel has done for stage musicals what Spielberg's Jaws did for fish stories, with worldwide sales of its original cast album approaching 25 million. While director Joel Schumacher's film turns on his typically ambitious visual verve, its new film soundtrack recording has been paradoxically focused in scope, yet beefed up dynamically via the brawny presence of a hundred piece orchestra and the London Boys Choir. This deluxe, double-disc version showcases all of Phantom's key songs, with Gerard Butler imparting a welcome, youthful sensuality to his Phantom, making a fine foil for Emmy Rossum's ever-conflicted Christine. Original show orchestrator David Cullen has fashioned compelling new contemporary arrangements to frame Webber's songs--which now conclude with the lilting, upbeat new ballad he wrote for the film, "Learn to Be Lonely," sung by Minnie Driver. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Review:The Phantom...I love the music. I didnt realise, however, that this cd is the entire movie, not just the music. It is rather annoying to skip parts of the tracts to get past the talking, but I still like it. MagnificentMuch better than the overrated OLC with Crawford and Brightman. Definitely a keeper! 5 stars easily!!!!!!! Phantom Rules~!
My daughter, Lydia, saw the opera, "Phantom", in Detroit a few months ago, enjoyed it SO much, she HAD to see the movie. Once seen, she was in love and began badgering me to get a copy for an "Early" Birthday Present - her 17th Birthday is in December~!
Needless to say, "Phantom" still rules, and is usually seen once
each week. Thursday has become "Phantom Day"! Keywords: Film; Film Music; Musicals; Original Score; Pop; Show Tunes; Soundtrack; Soundtracks; Soundtracks & Film Scores;

Live at Stubb's: Austin, TX 2/19/05Although reggae's religious overtones are often overshadowed by the music's ties to ganja and the hippie movement, there are some socially active or religious leaning artists out there. One of the newest comes in the unlikely figure of a young Hasidic Jew named Matisyahu. Singing with a slight ghetto patois, in Yiddish, and even displaying considerable beat-box skills, the New Yorker is at his best when he works himself into fits of righteous indignation and Old Testament fervor (the limits of his vocal range are laid bare when he croons on ballads). The lean three-piece band on this live recording, his second album, is aerodynamic and flexible, able to do the slow reggae groove or rock out with ferocity. After 12 tracks of stripped-down reggae, however, the music tends to blend into one long groove. Nonetheless, there is an undeniable urgency in this live recording that comes through loud and clear, making it a live document of note by one of reggae's most interesting new figures. -- Tad Hendrickson

Customer Review:Great AlbumI bought this album based on word of mouth, and I have to say Mattisyahu does not dissapoint. His voice is great, the band is tight, and the style is unique. He feeds off of the crowds energy, and turns in a great performance. I am not generally a huge reggae fan, but Mattisyahu's music defies categorization. Entirely unique and surprisingly well doneIf you would have told me to listen to a NYC kid turned Hassidic Jew's take on reggae, I would have declined. But after hearing about how amazing Matisyahu's voice was, I decided to give it a shot. I am no reggae expert, Bob Marley is as good as it gets right? So why bother with all the other crap?
Well, Bob is as good as it gets, but Matisyahu has breathed new life into the possibilities of reggae. His sound is FRESH and his voice is undeniably amazing. This is a new type of music and it's simply great.
The recording quality of this live show is above par and the energy Matisyahu exudes throughout the performance is fantastic. You may find listening to this album to be somewhat spiritual and uplifting regardless of your personal faith.
I highly recommend giving this a chance, and I much prefer the energy and rawness of this live album over his studio album. Live at Stubbs: Austin TX Matisyahumixture of reggae and jewish music . The mixture is unique. Ellen Hope Keywords: Pop; Reggae; Rock/Pop;

Barrio Fino
Daddy Yankee; | Ladies in Lavender
Nigel Hess; Joshua Bell; |
Barrio FinoReggaeton star Daddy Yankee balances dance music with philosophical tunes on this 21-track CD. The engine driving this collection is the smash single "Gasolina," with its basic reggae beat and its catchy chorus "Dame mas gasolina!" ("Give me more gasoline"). Also highly danceable are "No me Dejes Solo," featuring guest singers Wisin y Yandel, and the English-language pop-reggaeton tune "Like You." But Daddy Yankee also reflects on his barrio on "Salud y Vida" ("Health and Life"), a rap tune that questions society's endless pursuit of material things. Like fellow raggeton artists Tego Calderon, Daddy Yankee admires big-band salsa. Among his influences he counts noted singer Andy Montanez, who guests on the track "Sabor a Melao." Montanez's distinctive gruff vocals add a soulful flavor to the track. --Ramiro Burr
Customer Review:an energy boost!About the album well is amazing isn't the best album of reggaeton, but isn't the worst, THIS IS THE ALBUM that make a place for reggaeton in the world. "lo que paso paso" "Gasolina" "Corazones" "Salud y vida" the man is amazing.
About reggaeton for the people that don't know anything and spoke a lot of s**t about, well let me tell u this is the heart of the people of the ghetto in Puerto Rico, is the mix of the sounds of our latin culture, reggaeton is DANCE isn't about social problems, that's why u listen salud y vida or corazones = HIP HOP and not reggaeton, the topic of the sex is in all kind of latin music, when I wanna listen a good album of hip hop talking about social problems I listen 79 but when I Wanna enjoy a good time with my girl in the disco I listen Da-ddy Yan-KEEE! About the song Gasolina of course is stupid, but man the music, the chorus, IS AMAZING who cares about the lyric of this song or everyone was talking trash about the vengaboys for the stupid song "UP N DOWN" in the 90's, these are songs created with one objective "Dance" another question about the new latin movement? Reggaeton isn't reggae isn't HIP HOP so don't try to judge the movement, just enjoy it. Hot Daddy Yankeei love his cd barrio fino it is the bom my favorite song on is "no me dejes solo" and he is so hot i say my self i might be able to go to one of his concerts some day and get his autograph. This Man Is So Fine.I went to a concert of his,and i couldn`t keep my eyes oh him, and his music is catchy and club banging.
You should tottaly buy this,along with don omar`s cd totally tight. Keywords: Latin; Latin Pop/Rock; Reggae; Reggaeton;

Ladies in LavenderThe screenwriting/directing debut of veteran British stage and screen actor Charles Dance tells of a pair of Cornish spinsters (Judi Dench and Maggie Smith) who discover a charismatic young Polish violin virtuoso castaway (Daniel Bruhl) on the beach below their home. The tale leads inexorably to tender romantic conflicts and a warm concert house finale. Composer Nigel Hess masterfully utilizes his background as Music Director and House Composer for the Royal Shakespeare Company to conjure a score that evokes its quiet, emotional dignity via neo-classical orchestral arrangements that feature real life young virtuoso Joshua Bell on solo violin. Hess' intimate original compositions form a virtually seamless tapestry with the story's requisite classical repertory choices, which range from Massenet and Debussy to Bell's delightful variations on Paganini's "The Carnival of Venice." --Jerry McCulley
